Who Should Attend?

This is a technical hands-on VSLive! training seminar intended for developers and architects that want to learn about DevOps practices and tooling for a cloud-based Kubernetes solution.

This seminar is divided in two days with separate labs and allows you to start at any point given your experience. The first day introduces you to container technology and tooling with .NET Core. The second day covers container clusters and meshes using Kubernetes and Istio. Throughout the seminar workshop you will gradually improve your DevOps skills for container based solutions.

All courseware is on GitHub, so you can both prepare for the workshop ahead of time and finish the workshop at your own speed if you are unable to finish the labs during the workshop hours.

2-Day Hands-On Training Seminar: Doing Kubernetes DevOps Style
February 23-24, 2022
9:00AM – 5:00PM (Central)
Level: Intermediate

This training introduces you to Docker and container technology for DevOps teams. We will show you how to apply DevOps practices to cloud-based container solutions, complete with hands-on exercises using Kubernetes. The training uses Microsoft tooling and technology, but the skills you will learn can be applied in any technology stack.

This workshop contains hands-on labs to help you gain practical experience with the following topics:

  • Getting started with containers and Docker
  • Working with Kubernetes
  • Azure DevOps pipelines
  • Canary releases and A/B testing using Istio service mesh

You will learn:

  • How to automate everything from infrastructure to deployment
  • Get hands-on experience supporting DevOps practices with available tools.
  • Understand the implications for DevOps teams to build, deploy and run container based solutions in a cloud environment.
  • How to practice finding and fixing bugs without downtime

Attendee Workstation Requirements:
You must provide your own computer (Windows or Mac) for this hands-on lab workshop with a camera, wired Internet connection, speakers, and a microphone.

You will also need the following software installed on your machine prior to the start of training on February 23rd.

Roy Cornelissen
Cloud Solution Architect, Xpirit

Roy is a total foodie with serious cooking skills, leisure guitar player, aspiring graphic artist and a pro cloud & distributed systems architect with a healthy allergy for over-engineering.

He specializes in solution architecture using message and event driven patterns and cloud applications with .NET and Azure. Roy helps customers as a cloud solution architect at Xpirit in the Netherlands.



Erwin Staal
Azure Architect and DevOps Consultant, Xpirit

Erwin Staal is an Azure Architect and DevOps consultant working for Xpirit in the Netherlands. Helping companies deliver their software to customers using DevOps practices and cloud-native architectures is what he loves to do. He believes in the power of both the monolith and microservices and prefers to run his workload on the Azure Cloud and/or Kubernetes.

Besides the work he does for the customers of Xpirit, he has a passion for sharing knowledge. He is one of the authors of 'Azure Infrastructure as Code', occasionally writes a blog, and is an international speaker at conferences.
