2-Day Hands-On Training Seminar: Improve Your MVC Applications Using jQuery
August 10-11, 2021

Do you think your MVC applications could be a little faster? Do you need to improve your JavaScript and jQuery skills? You can accomplish both (and more) by attending this seminar. For two days you will be given several exercises to hone your client-side programming skills. You will learn to take advantage of JavaScript/jQuery functions, closures, event handling, DOM manipulation, local storage, Ajax, and much more, to create better MVC applications.

This course assumes you have experience with MVC and a little JavaScript and jQuery. The goal is to teach you how to take advantage of both JavaScript and jQuery within your MVC pages to make them better organized and more responsive. You are going to learn how to structure your script code using object-oriented techniques.

This course introduces you to the basics of JavaScript and jQuery. You then move on to understanding the global objects you have available within the browser. Event handling and built-in methods for working with strings, numbers, dates, and arrays is also explored. The basics of DOM manipulation is illustrated as this is one of the most important things you will use jQuery for in your MVC applications. Using closures and structuring your code for reuse is something you need to understand to become a great client-side programmer.

Ajax is a tool that can greatly help you speed up your MVC applications. Post-backs are an expensive operation for MVC applications. Many of them can be avoided by writing Web API's and calling those from jQuery using Ajax. In this course you will see several examples of where these techniques can make your MVC applications more responsive.

You will learn:

  • How to get started with JavaScript and jQuery
  • How to manipulate your web pages using jQuery
  • Making your jQuery code more efficient and reusable
  • About using Ajax to speed up your MVC applications

Attendee Prerequisites:
Knowledge of C#, .NET and MVC programming is required as well as a fundamental knowledge of JavaScript and jQuery. However, we are going to teach you the basics of JavaScript and jQuery up to to some intermediate topics. We also assume you understand the basics of HTML and CSS.

Attendee Workstation Requirements:
You must provide your own computer (Windows or Mac) for this hands-on lab workshop with the following technologies installed:

  • Visual Studio 2019 or later
  • or Visual Studio Code V1.5 or later
  • .NET Framework, .NET 5.x or later
  • SQL Server (Developer Edition or higher) or SQL Server Express
