In June of 2018, Microsoft announced their intention to acquire GitHub. At the end of October 2018, Microsoft confirmed the acquisition was complete. Microsoft has always wanted to make it easier to build solutions on their stack—whether that be on-premises or in the cloud. With Azure DevOps, they evolved their original team development stack to work with Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile, and more. With GitHub, that had a platform that represents the center of open source and is designed for distributed teams from the start.

A big question for teams committed primarily to the Microsoft platform in 2010 is which DevOps tools they should use. In this demo heavy deep dive, Brian will compare and contrast Azure DevOps and GitHub as a solution your team. All the major services in the cloud will be covered. In addition, there will be discussion around hybrid and on-premises choices. Finally, this deep dive would not be complete without discussion licensing.

You will learn:

  • What is the state of Azure DevOps
  • What is the state of GitHub
  • How to do your own analysis when you go back to the office on which stack works for you and your team
