For many new Power BI implementations, the initial self-service and team objectives are satisfied quickly. The natural evolution of Power BI turns to an organizational focus. In other scenarios, the enterprise seeks to preserve its investments in "classic BI" by integrating Power BI with Analysis Services and the underlying data warehouse.

In this session, you'll hear from Data Platform (SQL Server/BI) MVP and SSAS Maestro Bill Pearson. You'll explore the construction of organizational BI solutions, wedding "traditional" solutions with the reporting and analysis power of Power BI. You'll focus on the components of a "traditional" solution, the semantic model (with SQL Server Analysis Services as an example), and then paths to the implementation of an end-to-end enterprise solution that uses Power BI as the presentation layer.

You will learn:

• The purpose and structure of common organizational BI solutions, including the important semantic layer as implemented in the Microsoft Business Intelligence Semantic Layer ("BISM")
• The advantages that accrue to the enterprise from the presence of BISM, and how it enhances performance of the Power BI presentation layer
• To compare and contrast self-service and organizational BI models, and understand the timing of an "upgrade" to organizational BI with Power BI as the presentation layer
